I finished this one some time ago, but hadn't time to write about it. It was the first thriller I read, which is quite curious - as I have read all other genres already.
It's a good story, but I have to say I'm not getting to be a fan of thrillers, as I also don't like crime stories (except Agatha Christie, but she's also some kind of classic I think). At the moment I have quite a lot of unread books in my room, some philosophical, some really heavy ones (like Ken Folletts sequel of the "Pillars of the Earth") and some classics (Lawrence Sterne is already waiting a year or so).
To finish the 50 books it wouldn't be necessary to buy even one new book. Still I'm visiting bookstores, buying new books, some I read immediately, some have to wait, and there may be even some that I will never read. Why do I keep buying books? Why I can't just stop? Is there some self-help group like the AAs?
Jaja, Ferien sind und die Bücher schwinden im Eiltempo dahin =) Leider sollte ich auch jetzt ganz was anderes machen. Da wartet beispielsweise eine Seminararbeit darauf geschrieben zu werden. Und dann ist da noch dieses Essay, dass sich einfach nicht beenden lassen will. Aber wir geben nicht auf! Wenn da nur nicht diese ganzen Bücher wären!
Wieder zwei Bücher von Cornelia Funke, nun ist die Tinten-Triologie abgeschlossen und zum Glück geht am Ende doch noch alles gut aus. Die Bösen sterben und die Guten dürfen endlich ihr Leben genießen.
Im zweiten Teil, Tintenblut, lässt Frau Funke einen meiner Lieblingscharaktere sterben. Das scheint neuerdings guter Ton in der Kinderliteratur geworden zu sein, hat doch auch Frau Rowling meinen Sirius in den Tod geschickt. Im Gegensatz zu letzterer schenkt Frau Funke meinem Lieblingscharakter noch ein Leben im dritten Teil Tintentod. Vielen Herzlichen Dank dafür! In der Mitte der Geschichte hatte ich ein paar Mal Lust einfach aufzuhören, es wurde ziemlich traurig und aussichtslos. Aber da mich Cornelia Funke bis jetzt noch nie enttäuscht hat las ich doch weiter, und bin nun froh darüber. Das Ende ist wirklich wunderschön, aber nicht kitschig.
Gut wird die Thematik behandelt, dass man immer etwas anderes will, als man hat. Bei Meggie ist es der Wunsch in die Tintenwelt zu reisen und all die Feen und Kobolde mit ihren eigenen Augen zu sehen. Am Ende des dritten Bandes bekommt Meggie einen Bruder, geboren in der Tintenwelt und aufgewachsen mit den Feen, die für ihn ganz gewöhnlich sind. Er wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher als in die "echte" Welt zu gehen um die Bilder die sich bewegen, Kutschen ohne Pferde ohne Vögel aus Stahl zu sehen.
Mir hat es bewusst gemacht, wie wunderlich unsere Welt ist, wenn man nur die Augen aufmacht. Denn ich gestehe, ich habe mich auch immer nach anderen Welten gesehnt, ob es jetzt Rohan in Mittelerde oder ein Piratenschiff in der Karibik war.
Ja, auch als Erwachsener kann man noch was Lernen =)
Finished this one yesterday. I read it the second time, because I want to read the third volume but I couldn't remember the plot exactly anymore. I really enjoyed reading it again, it's just a fabulous books. Though written for children, this is one of those warm-hearted books one never grows too old. The English title is "Inkheart" and if you or your children don't know Cornelia Funke go and buy it.
There are so many comments and plot lines I don't need to recommend it any further. It's great, I liked it more than Harry Potter - so I think I really don't have to say anything else.
Dieses Buch zu lesen macht wenig Sinn, wenn man mit der österreichischen Bildungspolitik der letzten Jahre nicht vertraut ist.
Genau diese kritisiert Konrad Paul Liessmann nämlich in seinem Buch "Theorie der Unbildung" und hat damit in den meisten Fällen Recht. Obwohl von einem Philsophen geschrieben ist es durchgehend leicht verständlich und auch für Otto Normalverbraucher geeignet. Ich persönlich würde es jeder/m BildungsministerIn Europas ans Herz legen. Es ist nie falsch sich über sein Handeln Gedanken zu machen, besonders nicht, wenn sie kritisch sind.
Doch nicht nur an der österreichischen Bildungsreformen vergreift sich Liessmann, sondern auch am PISA-Test und dem Wandel zur Wissensgesellschaft. Nüchtern weiß der Philsoph festzustellen, dass noch nie so wenig Wissen vermittelt und gewusst wurde wie in der heutigen Wissensgesellschaft.
Diesen und anderen Missständen geht Liessmann nach und sagt der "Ökonomiserung der Bildung" den Kampf an.
Lesenswert von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite, nicht nur für jene, die die Bildungspolitik Österreichs gestalten.
This one, "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger seems to be one of those books every student in the USA has to read at high-school. Applying to the articles in English and German on Wikipedia, all world loves it.
I did not really love it. To me, it seems a bit like the "Der Schüler Gerber" by Friedrich Torberg I had to read at my school. Of course the books are different and can't really be compared. But there is the same absolute positive opinion about it that I can't understand.
I mean it wasn't a bad book and maybe I just don't like stories about teenagers. But in my eyes the book is overrated and over-interpreted - which happened to many books and authors during the last years. Just because it's challenging moral attitudes it doesn't get a good book.
So yes, I'm still alive. The last two month weren't quite what I would call relaxing. But somehow I found at least some time to read - especially in the subway. Though there wasn't much time left to write about it.
But anyway: "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch was quite a pleasant read. I never liked those self-help books too much, you have to know. Though Pausch didn't write one of these, it really helped to get a different look on my life. At least everyone will find some good advise and because I never had a grandfather who would give one of those really exciting life advising stories to me I really had the feeling to call Randy Pausch and thank him. He has written a book not only as a memory and life advises for his children, but also for me and surely for many others.
Randy Pausch is a professor at Carnegie Mellon and dying. Many professors are asked at some time in their life to hold a "Last Lecture" to give students some advise. Well, for Pausch it's really his last lecture and so the video rides around the YouTube world. It's worth a glance:
So at the moment I'm quite busy with reading. I finished "Evil Genius" by Catherine Jinks. I really hate the cover, have to say I bought the German edition which is much prettier with black edges and really evil looking.
But weather the protagonist Cadel nor the story itself is evil, it's a children book. Even if there are quite a lot dead people.
I'm not sure if I like this book, but I really like Cadel - maybe because he's clever but has no idea of human behaviour or human ways to think and act. But not because he is so evil that he has no conscience, but because he's too good to believe how cruel people can be.
And of course he's unbelievable cute. Big blue eyes, blond curly hair, with a disarmingly smile. There's no way not to love this boy and his story. Which is already continued, maybe I have time to read it next weekend. I would really wish Cadel a normal life.
Just to let you know I'm still reading, here my last two read books. The left one, "The Law of Dreams" tells the story of a young Irish boy who tries to survive in the cold times of the Great Famine. The author, Peter Behrens, tells a great story, I really loved the books, couldn't take it out of my hands until Fergus found his luck in Canada.
The second book I couldn't find in Amazon, I think it's only published in Germany/Austria yet, as the author is from Israel. The book's called "Zwillingsstern" by Eran Bar-Gil. He's a great author and I hope to get more to read by him.
I just recognized, how many 50 books are. In first place that would mean to me to read all my unread books which surround me in my bedroom. Furthermore, to buy another 30 books to read. And 365 days are not that much. Though I also thought about myself as a busy and passionate reader, I possibly never read 50 books in a year. After I realized that now, those 50 books are suddenly a real challenge to me. Which makes me a bit afraid, but really ambitious. I will make it - for sure.
My last post dates some time back, I'm quite busy at the moment. So I also have not much time to read a book. But for "Me and Mr Darcy" by Alexandra Potter I found enough time. It's an easy read - perfect during lunch or in the subway on the way to work.
A desperate young single woman called Emily Albright has enough of men. After a unbelievable shocking date, she decides to quit with men. Through some mysterious circumstances she finds herself on a literature tour through England on the paths of Jane Austen. There she's not only dating Mr Darcy, who doesn't make the perfect boy friend at all, but she also finds her true love.
All Austen fans will love this book, as Emily Albright seems to get a character of Austens book "Pride and Prejudice" herself and after some troubles Emily not only gets a real man to love, but also finds a way to compete her own private troubles.
The book got me into a Jane-Austen-fever and I'm now reading "Emma", hopefully I get it this time finished...
